The Bid for Hope Weathers the Storm

Hurricane Sandy prevented Julie and Alan Faneca from flying in to attend the eleventh annual Bid for Hope event, but Heath and Katie Miller were there to greet the almost three hundred attendees. The Millers are staunch supporters of Glimmer of Hope and were instrumental in helping Glimmer to raise almost $100,000 on that rainy night!  The great attendance speaks volumes about the wonderful support that Diana Napper has for her foundation. “We are blessed to have all of these people attend our event to help us in our quest to find a cure for breast cancer,” Napper said.

She accepted a $5,000 check from Brett Keisel and the Da Beard Gear crew  from the sale of his specially designed T-shirt. Troy Polamalu, Chris Rainey and several other Steelers were on hand  to  sign footballs.   Nick Marzock provided music for the evening and Bob Pompeani was the emcee, once again, doing a wonderful job.  Napper presented the Glimmer of Hope award to the Rooney family because they have been such great supporters of the foundation. Attendees were able to bid on raffle baskets and silent and live auction items, that included a Heath Miller signed jersey.  Bill Phillips, who lost his wife to breast cancer, presented Napper with a check for $1,000 from the sale of trivets, which he makes from  wine  corks.  To date, he has donated $10,000 to Glimmer.

Despite the rainy weather, the crowd came out to support this annual event. Proceeds will be donated to various local hospitals for breast cancer research projects, the purchase of new equipment and to help fund staffing needs.  Napper continues to support the pre-menopausal population of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer.  She recognizes that their needs are unique.  Let’s hope that the weather will be a bit nicer for next year’s event!
